Opening this may, Balfour is a new retirement community in Louisville, offering a complete continuum of services for seniors, from independent and assisted living to skilled nursing and Alzheimer's care programs, Notably, it hosts an on campus hospice program in partnership with Hospice of Boulder County. Residents are provided the full range of services and choices necessary to allow aging in place.
"The heart of Balfour's mission is to provide a quality, home-like environment that respects and preserves the dignity of the individual," according to Michael Schonbrun, president of Balfour Senior Care, a locally owned company. Balfour's design evokes a true residential feeling, including a decor that reflects the best of the western lifestyle.
"Having an in-patient hospice program here at Balfour ensures that we can provide the full spectrum of services for our residents, whether in their apartments or in the adjoining Care Center run by Hospice of Boulder County," says Schonbrun. "We're proud to host the only such in-patient facility of this kind in the county."
Balfour's health care and wellness program emphasizes learning, health maintenance, and therapy. Exercise classes for overall fitness, preventive screening programs, lectures on current health topics, and a highly trained staff to help during health transitions are an important part of the ongoing program.
The activities at Balfour promote positive aging and personal growth. "We believe that people never stop learning," says Schonbrun. "It's our privilege to help seniors continue their personal journeys.
From craft programs to book clubs, exercise programs to Internet access, our aim is to keep seniors up to date and in touch."
Outdoor activities, cultural events, and involvement in the community are all part of the program. Balfour features an on campus library, card room, hair salon, concierge services, even a guest suite for out-of-town visitors.
